IMAGEWORKS CELEBRATES 25 YEARS! October 4, 2011 – Today Imageworks celebrates the 25th anniversary of it's founding! On this day in 1986, Craig Bentley and Jorge Castellanos signed the partnership papers at Imageworks' first home office in the San Diego neighborhood of Tierrasanta (otherwise known as Craig's apartment at the time). Who would have guessed Imageworks would still be going strong (in a real office) all these years later! In other news, Imageworks announces the hiring of Don Sinatra as a new editor. Don's background with TV stations KPBS and KOCT will help the company complete new projects even faster! THE AWARD FOR BEST EMMY CEREMONY GOES TO... June 19, 2011 – Imageworks’ Craig Bentley, who is serving on the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) Pacific Southwest chapter Board of Governors, recently served as an Executive Producer for the 2011 regional Emmy ceremonies. The event, emceed by local celebrity Russ T. Nailz, was a huge success for all involved. The purpose of the Emmy Awards is to recognize outstanding achievement in television by conferring annual awards of merit in the Pacific Southwest region. ![]() A few of the attendees shared their thoughts about the event with Imageworks: COMING TO A THEATER NEAR YOU! January 1, 2011 - This October, Imageworks will be celebrating its 25th birthday! That’s 25 years of creating high-quality videos and content for our clients. For instance, December marked the 15th year in a row that Imageworks produced Legal Update for the Commission on Peace Officers Standards & Traning (POST), helping to keep our state’s police forces informed and safely protecting our streets. Imageworks also recently completed production on another POST project, Elder & Dependent Adult Abuse, which focuses on law enforcement’s role in safeguarding both elderly and dependent adult victims. CHECKING IT ONCE, CHECKING IT TWICE... June 23, 2010 - Imageworks recently completed production on a telecourse for POST on Identifying Fraudulent & Counterfeit Government Documents. This training program shows that counterfeit and fraudulent government documents support serious criminal areas such as narcotics trafficking, human trafficking, gang business and terrorist activity. The program details the differences between a counterfeit, fraudulent, or altered document; describes the tools that officers may use to identify security features on government documents; and teaches that thorough investigation of all cases is key to preventing fraud. GETTING THE WORD OUT March 22, 2010 - Did you know that people with disabilities are four times more likely to be sexually abused than people without disabilities? Imageworks just completed an awareness video for SEEDS Educational Services to help exceptional learners relate effectively with others in their community, and build safe and meaningful relationships. For the tenth year running, Imageworks also produced and directed a two-camera shoot recording the annual Venture Challenge competition for the Entrepreneurial Management Center at SDSU. FOURTEEN YEARS OF LEGAL UPDATES! January 14, 2010 - Another year, another several thousand peace officers in California trained! For the fourteenth year, Imageworks' Craig Bentley produced the annual legal update program for digital OutPost and POST. Imageworks' also produced special video segments this month for the Employers' Fraud Task Force 2010 Fraud-Fighting Awards at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim. ![]() LEAVING LAS VEGAS October 27, 2009 - Principal photography is wrapping up on Under the Boardwalk: The MONOPOLY Story, a documentary about the game of MONOPOLY produced by Imageworks' Craig Bentley and Kevin Tostado. They are back from Las Vegas after having their superb crew of 14 film the 2009 MONOPOLY World Championship. Forty-one competitors from all over the world descended on Caesars Palace to battle it out - three full rounds of play lasting all day Wednesday, semi-finals for the Top 16 players on Thursday morning, and the World Championship match with the final four early Thursday afternoon. ![]() This world championship match was the shortest one in tournament history, lasting less than 42 minutes. AWARD NEWS September 18, 2009 - Imageworks has been recognized yet again with a Bronze Telly Award & Aurora Gold Award for its work on "Crowd Management Update" for POST. Additionally, Imageworks received an Aurora Platinum: Best of Show Award for "Anti-Reproductive Rights Crimes (Update)." TRAINING TOMORROW'S LEADERS September 2, 2009 - Imageworks recently completed a video for Gordon Training International on how the Gordon Model helps leaders to become more effective as part of their Leadership Effectiveness Training (L.E.T.). Using 20 vignettes, narration and graphics, the video depicts the benefits of using Active Listening as well as how to recognize the many communication roadblocks that people unknowingly use in the workplace. Imageworks also has created its first in-theater advertisements for the County of San Bernardino on behalf of Cook & Schmid of San Diego. This project was a perfect example of how Imageworks can provide a quick turnaround and successfully execute your next idea or project. ADVANCING PEACE OFFICER TRAINING April 27, 2009 - Imageworks has completed production on another two projects with digital OutPost for POST: "2009 Legal Update" and "SWAT Operations." Legal Update provides peace officers a comprehensive overview of new legislation and case law decisions impacting California law enforcement in 2009. SWAT Operations helps patrol officers, command and executive staff, and SWAT team members to better understand the dynamics and logistics of response situations and how best to coordinate interagency tactics. Production is going strong on "Under the Boardwalk," a documentary about the game of MONOPOLY produced by Imageworks' Craig Bentley and Kevin Tostado. Their 8 high-definition cameras and filming crew of 10 were on hand to capture all the excitement of the 2009 US MONOPOLY Championship in Washington, D.C. September 19, 2008 - Imageworks had a sneak preview screening at the Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank, CA of its newest completed project, "Claims Management: Stop Fraud, Avoid Loss" for the Employers' Fraud Task Force. This video has been designed to help insurance adjusters manage workers' compensation cases. Not only did the sneak preview take place on the Disney lot, but it was screened from Blu-ray and projected in high-definition in one of their theaters, and it looked incredible! BETTER THAN EVER August 14, 2008 - Imageworks has put in an all-new edit suite, built from scratch running the latest version of the Adobe Production Premium Suite which includes Premiere Pro and After Effects. With the new installation, Imageworks is now capable of taking high-definition projects from a tapeless start to a Blu-ray finish all in-house! GIVING ANGELS THEIR WINGS July 1, 2008 - Imageworks used two cameras to film a presentation for Angelsoft, LLC about their new software for angel investors, then edited the program and prepared it for delivery on their web site. Imageworks also has completed production with dOP of two new telecourses for POST, "Gangs & Drugs: How Gangs Operate" and "Gangs & Drugs: Dealing with Gang Members." For the telecourses, Imageworks traveled to maximum security prisons in Northern California to interview inmates who were formerly gang members about their experiences in and out of prison. June 10, 2008 - Imageworks and Craig Bentley continue to produce high-quality programs and as a result are recognized by the industry. Imageworks took home a Silver Telly Award for the POST program “K-9 Unit Operations,” produced with digital OutPost and featuring an intro starring Jim Belushi. "K-9 Unit Operations" also was honored with the Platinum Best of Show Aurora Award. Two other POST programs also won Aurora Awards: "2007 Legal Update" won a Platinum Best of Show and "2008 Legal Update" took home the Gold Aurora Award.
At the May Media Communications Association - International (MCA-I) San Diego chapter meeting, Craig Bentley was one of the featured speakers on "Getting the Best From Your 'Talent'" dealing with both professionals and non-professionals. Craig is a past president of the San Diego chapter and currently serves on the Board of Directors. IMAGEWORKS JOINS FORCES WITH MICKEY February 26, 2008 - Imageworks recently produced video segments for the first annual Fraud Fighting Awards, presented by the Employers' Fraud Task Force and The Disneyland Resort. Additionally, Imageworks videotaped the award ceremony so that award recipients who could not be present could feel like they were. Imageworks also has completed production with dOP on two more projects for POST, 2008 Legal Update and Crowd Management Update. Legal Update provides peace officers a comprehensive overview of new legislation and case law decisions impacting California law enforcement in 2008. Crowd Management helps inform officers how to handle situations such as dealing with protesters breaking the law, unruly house parties, public demonstrations, and crowded bars. GOOD PUB FOR IMAGEWORKS September 24, 2007 - Imageworks was recently featured in an article by the San Diego Business Journal about how more and more businesses are turning to production companies like Imageworks for their next project. IMAGEWORKS THROWS DOGS A BONE July 6, 2007 - Imageworks and digital OutPost have teamed up to produce another peace officer training video for POST about K-9 Operations. Jim Belushi provided an introduction to the video as well as anecdotes from his experiences shooting movies with peace officers and their K-9s. Imageworks produced a third video for the Employers' Fraud Task Force on workers' compensation fraud focusing on "Employee Rights & Responsibilities." In addition, Imageworks also produced Spanish & Vietnamese versions of the video and two PSAs. Imageworks and KPBS partnered up for three projects in Spring 2007:
AWARD NEWS June 20, 2007 - Once again, Imageworks and Craig Bentley have been recognized for producing high-quality programs! Imageworks took home a Telly Award for the POST program “Legal Aspects of Terrorism,” produced with digital OutPost. In addition, another POST program, "Response to Human Trafficking" won both a Telly Award and an Aurora Award. PEOPLE March 14, 2007 - Imageworks recently added Kevin Tostado as an Associate Producer. A graduate of Olin College in Boston, Tostado comes to Imageworks already having co-written and directed a full-length independent feature titled Yellow Lights, which won "Best Feature" and "Best Cinematography" at the 2007 Indie Fest USA film festival. October 4th, 2006 - Imageworks celebrates 20 years in business. How time flies when you're producing award-winning videos for your clients! PROTECTING YOUR FAMILY August 8, 2006 - When it comes to underage drinking, the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) and KPBS have trusted Imageworks to produce a statewide awareness campaign to emphasize that supplying alcohol to minors is not as innocent as it might seem. Imageworks produced two public service announcements in high definition addressing the underage drinking issue; a video on the new T.R.A.C.E. investigative unit within ABC, and videos for both licensees and parents: "Minors & Alcohol: Protect Your Job" and "Minors & Alcohol: Protect Your Family and Friends" are both in circulation and bringing awareness to those in California about the dangers and consequences of supplying alcohol to minors. Amylin Pharmaceuticals, a leader in diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular research, gave Imageworks the task of creating a video for their Video Wall, which lets users slide a plasma screen on tracks across a graphic wall triggering specific video segments that correspond with the rolled-over graphic. Imageworks also created an anamorphic widescreen video for Amylin to be exhibited on several plasma screens in their trade show booths. IMAGEWORKS MAKES THE NEWS April 14, 2006 - Imageworks recently directed training scenarios for the POST video on "News Media Relations." Because a full SWAT team was used in filming, it attracted local media coverage. Director Craig Bentley was interviewed by FOX 6 for the evening news.
For the seventh year in a row, Imageworks and KPBS have completed coverage of Venture Challenge, the annual business plan competition organized by the Entrepreneurial Management Center at SDSU. Lastly, Coca-Cola San Diego turned to Imageworks to produce a motivational video that showcased all of the employees at their San Diego bottling plant. Given the goal of producing a video that illustrated the need for quality work from every employee, Imageworks jumped at the opportunity and satisfied yet another client. HAPPY NEW YEAR! A SHINING STAR AT IMAGEWORKS June 9, 2005 - Imageworks' Craig Bentley, President of the San Diego chapter of Media Communications Association - International, was given the Shining Star award at the MCA-I Media Festival in Las Vegas. Craig was one of the first five winners of the award, which was developed to recognize chapter leaders across the nation who have made significant contributions to their chapter. For the fifth year in a row, Imageworks and KPBS produced video segments for Venture Challenge, the annual business plan competition organized by the Entrepreneurial Management Center at SDSU. For the third year, Imageworks produced video segments for KPBS and UCSD Athena for the annual Pinnacle Awards. Lastly, Imageworks continues it's thirteen-year relationship with POST, the state police commission, and KPBS, producing police training videos on interview and interrogation techniques. AWARD NEWS February 10, 2004 - Imageworks received the Communicator Award of Distinction for "Eliminating Health Disparities," a videoconference produced for KPBS and the California Distance Learning Health Network. IMAGEWORKS GOES HIGH DEFINITION January 5, 2004 - Imageworks completed its first high definition production, "Soy Mi Familia", a thirty-second flu shot PSA directed by Imageworks' Craig Bentley for KPBS and the California Distance Learning Health Network. For the San Diego Regional Center, Imageworks produced "My Life…My Way, Chris's Story", "Kids and Community - Connect for the Future", and "Successful Communities - Everyone Valued", a series of videos about integrating people with disabilities into the community. Wrapping up a record year, Imageworks produced "Warrant Service & Building Entries," "Preliminary Investigation," and "2004 Legal Update" for POST, the state police commission, and KPBS. PROMOTING GOOD HEALTH July 2, 2003 - Imageworks and KPBS produced "Learning Without Limits," a marketing video for the California Distance Learning Health Network, and also videotaped their Distance Learning Facilitators conference. "Traffic Stops 2004" is the latest video telecourse produced by Imageworks for POST and KPBS. KPBS once again hired Imageworks to produce video segments for UCSD Athena for the "Pinnacle Awards," and for the Entrepreneurial Management Center at SDSU for "Venture Challenge 2003". "Integrating Systems", a videoconference, was produced by Imageworks and KPBS for the Dental Health Initiative of San Diego and Share The Care. Dimension One Spas contracted Imageworks to shoot beauty shots of their latest spa creation, the Sarena Bay. TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES February 20, 2003 - Imageworks is wrapping up a busy fall and winter by completing a video for KPBS and the California Dept. of Insurance titled "Workers' Comp Fraud: Truth or Consequences". In addition to a generic version for all of California, Imageworks taped 19 district attorneys from around the state and produced customized versions of the video for each of their counties. For POST and KPBS, Imageworks produced two public service announcements, a motivational video and a training video to help recruit dispatchers. Other POST training videos included Anti-Reproductive Rights Crimes, Civil Disobedience and the annual Legal Update for peace officers. Other recent co-productions with KPBS include a marketing video and multi-camera conference support for the California Distance Learning Health Network, and an instructional video on the Mirage Vista Mask System for ResMed. For Dimension One Spas, Imageworks produced a marketing video for their Aquatic Fitness System, an all-in-one spa, stationary lap pool and fitness center. AWARD NEWS September 12, 2002 - Imageworks earned Telly Finalist Awards for two police training videos, "Elder/Dependent Adult Abuse" and "Late Life Domestic Violence," and a public service announcement, "The Badge". HELPING THOSE WITH DISABILITIES July 1, 2002 - Imageworks recently produced English and Spanish versions of a video for the San Diego Regional Center that showcases their self-determination pilot project. The project empowers people with developmental disabilities to plan services according to their individual needs, instead of choosing from a standard list. Imageworks then videotaped a self-determination conference presented by the regional center. In a busy first half of 2002, Imageworks also taped a medical presentation for JG Solutions, interviews for Fisher Scientific, and a spa installation video for Dimension One Spas. CO-productions with KPBS included a fully interactive DVD for Baby Playtime, videotaping in San Diego and San Bernardino for the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, an awards kickoff video for the Entrepreneurial Management Center, and a police training video for the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards & Training. IMAGEWORKS RECRUITS PEACE OFFICERS December 20, 2001 - Imageworks spent a large part of 2001 producing a package of recruiting videos for KPBS and the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards & Training. The package included 6 public service announcements, a video news release, a promotional tape, a two-hour best practices video and a 3-day symposium in Burbank. Imageworks also produced several other training videos for POST, covering topics such as Elder Abuse, Late Life Domestic Violence and the annual legal update for peace officers. Other projects for KPBS included an image piece for the California Department of Information Technology, a marketing video for ResMed, and an immunization training video for the California Department of Health Services. Imageworks and KPBS also provided video support again this year for SDSU's international business plan competition and UCSD CONNECT's Most Innovative New Product Awards. IMAGEWORKS CELEBRATES 15-YEAR ANNIVERSARY October 4, 2001 - Imageworks celebrated its 15th year in business with an open house at its office in Bankers Hill. Clients, vendors and colleagues took part in the celebration. AWARD NEWS September 4, 2001 - Imageworks won a Platinum Aurora "Best in Show" award, and was a Telly Finalist, for "2001 Legal Update". Imageworks also garnered a Gold Aurora for "Domestic Violence: Court Orders", and Communicator Awards for two PSAs: "Are You Living Your Dream?" and "Make a Difference". BUSINESS BUBBLES AT IMAGEWORKS January 20, 2001 - Dimension One Spas once again came
to Imageworks to produce their 2001 Video Owner's Manual, and
for the second year in a row, UCSD CONNECT called upon Imageworks
and KPBS to provide video support for the Most Innovative New Products
awards. Also in conjunction with KPBS, Imageworks has recently completed
the Domestic Violence Court Orders and 2001 Legislative Update telecourses
for the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training.
KPBS and Alden Associates had Imageworks produce a marketing DVD
for JNI, and Imageworks and KPBS also produced a fund-raising video
for Bethel Seminary of San Diego. IMAGEWORKS OVERRUN BY BABIES July 26, 2000 - Imageworks just finished four parenting videos for Baby Playtime, Inc. and KPBS. The videos featured music by former San Diegan, Spencer Nilsen, and cast of over thirty babies and toddlers. Since moving to a new office in the Bankers Hill area, Imageworks also completed an E3 tradeshow for Mad Catz, an instructional video for GPK, a manufacturer of products for quadriplegics; and web video segments for SDSU's Educational Technology Department. Other projects with KPBS include 5 broadcast spots for Hispanic Heritage Month, a videoconference for California Distant Learning Health Network; a marketing video for ResMed; and award ceremony kick off videos for UCSD Connect and the Entrepreneurial Management Center at SDSU. AWARD NEWS January 13, 1999 - Imageworks snagged top honors in the Communicator Awards, winning an award of excellence for "By Any Means Necessary", their eye-popping video-wall program for Mad Catz of Santee; the team at Imageworks also garnered an Aegis Award for Dimension One Spas' 1998 video brochure. '99 PRODUCTION NOTES May 24, 1999 - Imageworks recently created a technical training video for Schumacher. In conjunction with KPBS, Imageworks also produced marketing videos for ResMed and Southwest Fabricators. The Irvine Police Department called on Imageworks to create a video presentation about the city's emergency management preparations. Imageworks then stepped into the studio with AJ Croce - the edit studio, that is - to compile clips for the musician's electronic press kit. IMAGEWORKS WRAPS UP A BUSY '98 January 13, 1999 - Imageworks shot still photos at eleven Sharp Rees-Stealy locations, then combined all the photos and archival materials into a program celebrating the company's 75th anniversary. Santee's Mad Catz recently called on Imageworks to coordinate a Pennsylvania shoot with racing legend Mario Andretti. After completion of a technical training video for Schumacher of Carlsbad, Imageworks documented Art Nicholas' presentation with a two-camera shoot at the bi-annual company meeting of Nicholas-Applegate. Imageworks also assisted New York's West Glen Communications with a video news release relating to a controversial episode of "Chicago Hope". Finally, Imageworks produced two more videoconferences for the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training and KPBS: "Firearms and Tactics Update", which documents a momentous three-day symposium on new developments in law enforcement training, and "Legislative Update 1999", an overview of last year's new laws and case decisions. IMAGEWORKS GETS IN THE GAME June 24, 1998 - The team at Imageworks got a crash course in videogames while producing a trio of marketing videos for El Cajon-based Mad Catz, maker of state-of-the-art gaming peripherals. Production included coordinating green-screen shoots in New York and Dallas, helming the studio shoot in San Diego, and compositing and editing on the Media100. The eye-catching programs were presented on Mad Catz' video-wall at the recent industry behemoth Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3); Imageworks also wrapped a group of programs for the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, in association with KPBS Television. The video series will serve as a training tool for standardizing scenario tests in police academies throughout the state; Power Circuits of Santa Ana called on Imageworks to produce a video tour of their state-of-the-art circuit board manufacturing facility. Imageworks shot on location at Lindbergh Field for Atlanta-based Delta Airlines, and compiled a Columbus Day highlight reel for the United Italian American Association. Imageworks also updated "The Hi-Tech Hold-Up", a program on credit card fraud they previously produced for Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. |
